New EU–UK Trade Arrangements Unlock Opportunities for European MedTech Growth
For the first time since Brexit, new trade arrangements are making it easier for European medical technology companies to enter the UK market. Reduced red tape, improved mobility, and streamlined trade processes are expected to strengthen commercial collaboration between European suppliers and UK healthcare providers.
Europe represents 26% of global device value, with a total market worth of 170 billion euros, driven by strong R&D investment and a well-established manufacturing base. European suppliers are well positioned to support UK demand for clinically validated, affordable, and service-friendly technology across a wide range of categories.
The UK remains a major importer of medical equipment, with the NHS accounting for 86% of medtech purchasing. Trusts are increasingly focused on technology that helps improve diagnostic access, enhance safety, and support modern models of care. As a result, companies specialising in imaging systems, connectivity, surgical equipment, monitoring, and engineering services may find strong commercial potential.
EBME Expo will be launching new outreach programmes aimed at engaging European manufacturers, distributors, and associations in markets such as Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and the Nordic region. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to increase international participation and support UK innovation adoption.
At the event, European suppliers will have the opportunity to meet procurement leaders, clinical engineers, and commercial partners who are reviewing new technology solutions to solve system-wide challenges. The exhibition will also provide space for technical training, knowledge exchange, and discussion around engineering best practice.
