US–UK Economic Deal Creates Major Commercial Pathway for MedTech Manufacturers

A new economic deal between the United States and the United Kingdom has opened a significant opportunity for medical technology manufacturers seeking to expand into the UK market. Lower tariffs and improved digital trade arrangements are expected to accelerate imports of high-value medical devices, helping overseas suppliers access a system that has long relied on international manufacturing.

The US is the world’s largest medical device market, accounting for 45% of global value, and is a leading centre for innovation in robotics, diagnostics, connectivity, software, and device engineering. The UK remains heavily dependent on imports to meet domestic demand, with 2.75 billion dollars’ worth of medtech products imported annually and a 5.4 billion-pound trade deficit that highlights the strength of the commercial opportunity.

At the same time, the NHS continues to face real challenges around diagnostic access, with shortages in CT, MRI and PET scanners contributing to extended waiting lists and delays to patient care. Demand for new imaging equipment, system upgrades, and service-led support remains high, creating a favourable environment for overseas manufacturers who can offer reliable and scalable solutions.

EBME Expo will be actively engaging US manufacturers through a series of targeted campaigns designed to support market entry and connect exhibitors with decision makers across procurement, clinical engineering, and private healthcare. As the UK continues to evolve its national medtech strategy with a focus on procurement reform, data-led innovation, and better deployment of technology, there is clear demand for solutions that help Trusts increase access, improve safety, and reduce operational strain.

The next edition of EBME Expo will provide a dedicated platform for US companies interested in expanding into the UK, offering a direct route to NHS engineering teams, distributors, and private healthcare operators who are exploring new technology partnerships.
